Customs & Trade

AICES has in depth knowledge, expertise and influence in the area of customs policy and technical matters, and closely engages with HMRC to ensure the smooth flow of goods across the border.

AICES sits on the HMRC Joint Customs Consultative Committee (JCCC) as well as playing an active part in all of the key JCCC Task & Finish groups.

During Brexit and the Covid-19 Pandemic, the UK customs landscape has been challenging with significant policy, process and IT systems changes. AICES has played a key role to ensure goods flowed and the commercial impact of these large scale changes was kept to a minimum.

Going forward, AICES believes that moving to a system based on trusted operators can help the smooth flow of goods and so keep costs down, making the UK more competitive in the international market place.

AICES has joined the UK’s first E-Commerce Trade Commission which aims to encourage 70,000 UK businesses not currently exporting to trade internationally.

From a policy perspective, our current Customs focus is on:

  • Customs Declaration Service
  • New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) 5
  • Border 2025 & the Single Trade Window
  • Northern Ireland Windsor Framework
